There's so much to enjoy

Monmouth is blessed with two theatres – the beautiful Art Deco Savoy Theatre and the modern Blake Theatre, each with a year-long programme of events, from music, magic, and family entertainment to top-notch comedy. the Savoy shows the latest films between its live events.

The town also has regular events as part of its calendar, from amateur dramatic productions and musical theatre to the annual Carnival, Agricultural Show, Raft Race, Medieval Festival, Bee Festival, and Christmas Lantern Procession.

A beautiful grade 2 listed building with sensational 5-star entertainment.  The Savoy stands on the oldest known theatre site in Wales and is also one of the oldest working theatres in the Principality. 

The programme comprises a mixture of feature films, live entertainment, and special cinema events.

Part of Haberdashers' Monmouth School, the Theatre is open to the public and Monmouth community. 

 

It plays host to live drama, music, magic, dance and renowned visiting speakers.  NT Live Screenings.

The company endeavours to perform four productions each year and these are generally staged in Monmouth’s Savoy Theatre.

 

Their repertoire ranges from comedies, classic drama, and thrillers, to murder-mysteries and popular plays.

Formerly known as Monmouth Operatic Society, formed in 1988, originally performing the repertoire of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. The scope has recently been widened to include the likes of Die Fledermaus, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Evita and Me & My Girl.

There is one major show a year, usually in April, and then minor shows or concerts in the autumn.

On Stage

Mayhem has gained a reputation for its musical excellence by a theatre group run for the benefit of the young people of Monmouth and the surrounding area.  

Some of its young performers have gone on to roles in the professional theatre.

A fun and friendly theatre group for ages 5-24! 

This young theatrical community has been growing since 2008. Focusing on building confidence and self-esteem, making friends and developing children and young adults’ knowledge of stage craft, movement and voice; while exploring different aspects of drama both in weekly classes and through performances on stage as well as in the local community.

Church Choir

Performs at least two major concerts each year, using professional orchestras and soloists, a Christmas concert and summer concert.

In addition, they run 'Come and Sing' workshops for members of the public who would like to  try some choral singing. Other activities take place as time and resources allow.

A parade of hand-crafted original lanterns makes its way from Monnow Bridge to the Shire Hall.  

 

Where there will be a market and live entertainment until 8 pm.

This annual event is held in June each year.

 

At 1 pm a  colourful, creative and fun parade travels from Agincourt Square through the town to Chippenham Fields for a range of exciting activities, stalls, displays and more on throughout the afternoon.

Food Festival

This one-day agricultural show brings the best of the county into one place; from craft stalls and local food and drink to show jumping, tug-of-war, ferret racing, live entertainment and family activities.

Sunday 1st September 2024

The popular annual raft race, held on the first Sunday in September, is a fun afternoon on the river.  

 

Starting at noon at Monmouth Rowing Club, a flotilla of rafts paddle over 6.5 miles down the beautiful River Wye to the finish at Tump Farm, Whitebrook, where there is family entertainment, stalls and refreshment.
