Birthplace of Legends

Monmouth, the UK’s first Bee Town, nestles in the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley. This pretty border town has a history dating back over 2,000 years to the Roman occupation.  A stroll through the main streets reveals the full range of Monmouth's architectural delights;  pretty courtyards and cobbled streets are home to independent cafés and shops, with Monnow Street hosting a good mix of high-street favourites and boutique businesses.

Why birthplace of legends?  Monmouth's rich history and notable connections to legendary figures:

Henry V was born at Monmouth Castle, and  Geoffrey of Monmouth, who wrote The History of the Kings of Britain in the 12th century, which played a crucial role in popularising the legends of King Arthur and Merlin, is also closely associated with the town.

Headquarters of a Tudor Regiment - The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) is the senior Reserve Regiment of the British Army with unbroken service to the crown since 1539.  Monmouth is still headquarters to this day.

Rockfield Studios was the first residential recording studio in the world and birthplace to arguably one of the greatest rock songs of all time - 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. This was the primary recording studio used by Queen at the time.  Other legendary albums have been recorded here by Oasis, Coldplay, Black Sabbath and many more household names.
